A Texas furniture tycoon known for placing big wagers to cover his free giveaway promotions is betting big on Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals to win the Super Bowl on Sunday.  Jim 'Mattress Mack' McIngvale placed a $4.5 million wager on the underdog Bengals to beat the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium. The AFC Champion Bengals are +170 on the money line, which would yield a payout of $7,707,800 if they win on the Rams' home turf in Super Bowl LVI.   McIngvale, 70, of Houston, made the bet to hedge against his promotion to fully reimburse customers who spend more than $3,000 at his three Gallery Furniture locations before Sunday's game.  The renowned gambler had to cross into Louisiana to place the big bet since sports gambling is illegal in Texas.  Louisiana, where Burrow led LSU to a national championship in 2019, made online sports betting legal on January 28. McIngvale, who has an estimated net worth of $300million, said: 'I'm not nervous, I'm excited about the Cincinnati Bengals winning that big game.

I've lost so many big bets in a row, I'm bound to win one sometime, and this is going to be it.'

The devoted Houston Astros fan lost more than $3 million betting on his hometown baseball team to win last year's World Series against the Braves.

In 2019, he lost $3.5 million when he wagered the Astros would defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers.   And this year, he has already lost $2 million on a bet that the New England Patriots would win the Super Bowl.  However, he did collect 3.46 million last year when he took the 3.5 points and picked Tom Brady and the Buccaneers to win Super Bowl LV.

He didn't even need the points as the Bucs routed Kansas City, 31-9, for Brady's seventh Super Bowl ring. The Rams are a 4-point favorite in this year's game.  McIngvale pulled into a gas station to place the big bet using Caesars Sportsbook's online app.

'I drove to the Louisiana state line and went into a convenience store and punched the bets in. And it took about an hour, because I had to do $200,000, then $500[thousand], then $200[thousand] and $500[thousand],' he said.  'The people in the convenience store didn't know what I was doing, but I got all $4.5million in.' McIngvale is excited to give his customers a chance to win big on home furniture, saying he 'hopes the customers get a lot of free mattresses and a lot of free recliners.'  'That'd be great,' he said with a huge smile on his face and said the company didn't 'raise prices at all' during the promotion. He also promised to make the bet even bigger if sales go up in his store.

'It's going to be fun either way.'  In 2017, the mattress seller refunded customers $13million after the Houston Astros won the World Series.  He had placed a $1million bet on the Astros, who beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in the seven-game series.   In 2014, McIngvale offered a refund on any purchase over $6,000 if the Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl but did not hedge his bet.

When the Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos, Mattress Mack ended up refunding an estimated $7 million of furniture purchases. 'It's a big hit, but it's a marketing expense. But more importantly, it's a brand-builder,' McIngvale said at the time.  He isn't taking any chances this time around. 'This $4.5million bet on Joe and the Bengals, Mack will make history again,' Ken Fuchs, head of sports at Caesars Entertainment, told .

'And with the millions of Caesars Rewards credits he'll earn — win or lose — he can enjoy time spent on OUR mattresses at Caesars anytime he wants to stop by.'  However, the huge gambler does not want any easy win and said he hopes it 'comes down to the last play.'  '[It was] great football to watch this year and congrats to the NFL for putting out a great product,' he told TMZ Sports.
